An unmodified version of Stunts offers eleven car colours to the racers, seven of them being available for each car. Given that there are eleven original cars, one might suppose there is an one-to-one relation between cars and default colours, but that is not the case - for instance, four of the eleven original cars default to blue. As creating custom cars with modified graphics became possible, new colours were added to the canonical set. DOSReloaded.de is a German-speaking community forum dedicated to DOS games. The forum covers a great spectrum of topics including the games themselves, but also old hardware and all sorts of discussion. It's home page is located at https://dosreloaded.de/forum/core/.

Stunts tournament
DOSReloaded gained considerable attention from the online Stunts community in January 2023, when some of our members decided to join the foreign forum to participate in an ongoing Stunts competition happening in the site. Although the tournament had been running since early 2019, it was at this point when real interaction first occurred between the communities.

Their tournament is managed by posting directly on the forum and they don't perform actual verification of replays, but rely on trust by simply sharing a screenshot. This fact and the participation of a particular racer called Mooh who appeared to always win with great difference (suggesting potential cheating, and with ease, thanks to the lack of verification) prompted some racers to try and show our way of verification to them. The result was that the forum people felt invaded and that their ways were not being respected and reacted negatively. Our racers decided to withdraw and excuse themselves for the sake of peace.
The powerful McLaren Honda MP4/4 was the first F1 car made for Stunts and was released on September 3rd 2011. It is from the epic 1988 Formula 1 season.

Development
This car was naturally based on the Porsche March Indy to speed up the 3D modelling process. It has two color schemes, but they only differ for the helmet to represent Senna and Prost's racing helmet.

The dashboard was made using some bits of the Porsche's dash, but most of it was designed from some rare photos taken of the real car that were found on the internet.

This car features a digital bar rev counter, a design first in Stunts. Although it was just a trick that uses the analog rev counter needle in a linear coordinate movement, it works accurately but shows some flickering caused by the steering wheel dot rendering that happens just below it.

For version 1.1 of the car, some changes were made to the dashboard around the side mirrors in order to move the transparent zone up. This change was made mainly to fix the presentation of the in-game replay controls.

Performance
The performance specifications were adapted from the information found on the now extinct F1DB.com site (among others in that period) and a PDF document that Zapper surprisingly found with an official engine performance report.

In-game, it performs greatly and is the fastest 0-60 MPH runner (against official cars). It's light weight, grips more and brakes better than its main "original" in-game rival, the Porsche March Indy, but has a lower top speed.
The Pontiac Firebird Turbo T/A - KITT Version is a custom car by Zapper.

Development
The creation of this car started back in 2011.

Although most of the 3rd generation Pontiac Firebird Trans Ams that appeared in the Knight Rider TV series between 1982 and 1985 were powered by a 5.7L V8, in the Stunts era it was more appropriate to use the 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am 20th Anniversary version with its 3.8L V6 turbo engine as a base car for the project. It was also one of the fastest 3rd generation models through the production years.

Since this was a KITT version, performance tuning had to accomplish (as much as possible) special features like better grip, more braking capacity and the inclusion of "Pursuit mode".

The 3D modelling was done with Anim8or and Stressed using the Corvette as a base and KITT blueprints as a reference. The two paint jobs included are the normal black KITT and a black/grey KARR color scheme. The dashboard was made from scratch using several pictures from the show found in a forum post.

Dashboard development phases:

It features a functional digital speedometer and a simulated bar-type tachometer up to 5250 RPM (real redline), although it has a visible scale up to 9000 RPM. The release of version 1.1 introduced an automatic console appearance (left labels) adapted to manual (right labels).

Performance
Performance figures were based on detailed information in The GTA Source Page car review article. The "Pursuit mode" is only triggered when using a manual transmission, leaving the automatic transmission for normal/real base model acceleration figures. To activate "Pursuit mode", it is necessary to keep accelerating in the same gear above the "normal" redline (5250 RPM), e.g. accelerating in 1st gear over 50 MPH in order to get high revving torque values. With its power rating up to 3000 HP at 11000 RPM (measured by CarEdit3), the top speed of 245 MPH is quickly achieved. The trade-off for this great acceleration is the resulting poor handling mainly caused by the car's weight.

Development
The creation of this model rectifies a remarkable Stunts omission by bringing the iconic late 80s supercar to the game that was only present in the replay interface.

The 3D model was made from scratch using Anim8or and some blueprints, using all the vertices that can be rendered by the game's engine.

The dashboard was based on the F40 in the Amiga version of The Duel: Test Drive II because of its 256 color palette and therefore, cosmetic changes were made to the clocks.

Performance
With regards to the driving experience, the F40 fits within the chasm between the high-end sports cars and the IMSA race cars. Compared to the Ferrari GTO, for instance, it is not only faster but also has noticeably better handling.

Starting from 2011, the F40 is one of the custom cars allowed in ZakStunts.
The very special Caterham Super Seven Jonathan Palmer Evolution from 1992 is a custom car that was projected to be part of Stunts to fit short and "twisted" tracks in the game.

This car is allowed to be used in the ZakStunts 2022 season.

Development
The creation of this car was somehow difficult by the fact that this is a highly customized car in the real world and because of its rarity, only 50 examples were made.
Some compromises were taken in terms of color schemes and dashboard layout, mainly because there was no official brochure, but in the end, details like the original lime yellow background of the speedometer and rev counter, the small windshield with transparency and the right hand drive steering wheel, were reproduced.

On the 8th of April 2021, the car was released but was rapidly updated so a 1.1 version was released the next day for speedometer and grip adjustment purposes.

On the 4th of November 2021, a version 1.1 mod 1.0 was made after the creation of a new custom feature that allows using custom colored needles for the speedometer and rev counter in Stunts, which improved the readability by changing the default white needles to black.

Performance
The natural lightness of this car allows great 0-100 MPH times and at the same time, very effective braking. It's a characteristic which made the real world model brake the 0-100-0 MPH record when released in 1992 (relegating the Ferrari F40).

The base specification of this car uses a 5 speed "long ratio" gearbox like one of several options available for this model. This choice allows it to get a better top speed (~145 MPH) comparatively over a 6 speed "short ratio" gearbox (~125 MPH).

Note: This "feather weight" car is prone to "flying carpets" and "fast landings".

Overview
The program allows the modification of car parameters (original and almost every custom car added to the game) separated into feature sections:

*Garage:
**List cars for handling RES files;
**Copy, rename or delete entire cars in a convenient way;
**Spare car management (using a configurable separate folder).

*Engine:
**Advanced power curve editing (single values or entire ranges);
**Adjust idle RPM, max RPM and gear shift RPM values.

*Gears:
**Number of gears and their ratios with equalizer function;
**RPM/velocity diagram with shifting scenarios;
**Dashboard gear console pattern coordinates.

*Misc:
**Car dimensions and collision parameters;
**Wheel coordinates with 3D shape coordinate calculation.

*Text:
**Automatic correction of length/offsets in RES files on save.

*GFX:
**Change movable dashboard elements on speedometer (analog/digital);
**Rev counter and wheel position coordinates.

Development and features
This tiny program was developed by dm_s1e6 and initially published on the Stunts Forum in 2014. Version 3 was the first to be released, although it was stated that this was still a "beta" version.

An older version of the program called CarEdit2 was created in the late 90s but was never published.

CarEdit3 offers a simple way of editing car parameters that is superior to Car Blaster but retains the use of the keyboard for input control. It is characterized by intense flickering caused by a lack of optimization in the rendering routine. This is most noticeable while editing the power curve.

The program was later updated and released in 2021 by Zapper with permission from dm_s1e6 who shared the program's source code for adding refinements and features.

Version 3.2 includes the following enhancements:
*Information that helps with the modification of parameters;
*More graphical elements displayed;
*Spare car management that supports all car file name formats.

Development
The Toyota Sprinter Trueno or Corolla Coupé (code named "AE86") was made from scratch with the newly available Stressed tool at the time.

Initially intended to be a car with drift capabilities in Stunts, it turned out to be one of the slowest cars available along with the Toyota Corolla Gti.

One of the color schemes includes a "panda" scheme like the one featured in the "Initial D" Japanese anime series and film.

Performance
Although pretty close to the performance of the real car in terms of engine and physics related aspects, its grip capabilities on dirt road are better than expected. After all, it's a car that has been in its beta release state since 2010.
The Toyota Corolla Gti is the first full model created by Zapper.

Development
This Toyota Corolla model (code named "AE92") was the first attempt to create a whole new car in mid 2010 after discovering the newly available Stressed tool. The car started out using the Acura NSX base files, but all was adapted to match the shape, dashboard and performance specifications inherent to the model.

The color schemes are consistent with those offered during the model era. Note that the car's speedometer is measured in km/h.

Performance
The performance of the car in terms of the engine was adjusted to match its real performance specifications, but the physics related aspects were tuned in order to simulate the front wheel drive feeling.

In Stunts, the chase to replicate and simulate this car's humble capabilities made it one of the slowest cars available.
The Porsche 911 Turbo is a custom car designed by Zapper.

Development
Its first release was in 2002 as part of Zapper's car pack, which included variants of the original Stunts cars tweaked solely for more accurate performance and dashboard speedometer/rev counter dials.

In 2011, the model was finally changed with a new custom 3D shape and dashboard graphics for the car with a new version release.

Performance
The 911 Turbo was included on the grounds of being a version of the Porsche 964 like the Porsche Carrera 4, only with a more powerful engine and rear wheel drive which translates to less grip than its related AWD model.

Remarks
The 911 Turbo was selected in ZakStunts' rotation of custom cars from 2015 to 2017. It has been the winning car in two races so far: ZCT175 and ZCT191.

The Lotus Esprit Turbo SE is a custom car by Zapper.

Starting from 2011, the Lotus is one of the custom cars allowed in ZakStunts.

Development
The 3D shape was made almost from scratch using blueprints and then edited with Anim8or and Stressed.

The dashboard was based on the Lotus Esprit in the Amiga version of The Duel: Test Drive II since it's composed in 256 colors.
It was further edited to match the woodgrain dashboard as seen in real photos of the specific 1989 model.

There are "British Racing Green" and "007 White" paint jobs, but unfortunately other aspects like amphibious features from the film are not included.

Performance
In Stunts, the performance of the Lotus Esprit belongs to the niche of cars such as the Acura NSX and Nissan Skyline, but it has the turbo "punch" that improves its 0-60 MPH time.

Within such a class, its main advantages are enjoyable handling and excellent ability to deal with adverse surface conditions.
It was fine tuned with help of the CarTest 4.5 simulation program.
The Ferrari F40 is a custom car designed by Zapper.

The Audi Quattro TDI is a model variant of the original Audi Quattro Sport in 4D Sports Driving / Stunts. It was made by Zapper and part of Zapper's car pack released in 2002.

Development
This Audi is a "pseudo" variant of the Quattro model that has the performance of a big V10 turbo diesel engine (like the one found in the Volkswagen Touareg).

The dashboard was swapped with the Corvette's because of the 6000 RPM limit on the tachometer and to provide a 6-speed gear pattern.

All other aspects, including the 3D shape, remained the same as the original Audi Quattro Sport.

Zapper's car pack is based on all the original cars in 4D Sports Driving / Stunts. It was made by Zapper and released in 2002.

Overview
The cars contained in this pack have their filenames changed (the car filename codes start with "Z", e.g. "ZFGT" instead of "FGTO" for Ferrari GTO) in order to avoid file collisions with the original ones.
Also, each car has a defined "z" suffix for the in-game fastest time record table and the car descriptions state "Tuned For Real by ZAPPER".

All modifications were limited to only the car parameters which include:

*Torque curve;
*Idle, Max and Shifting RPM values;
*Max speed (adjusting mass);
*Gear ratios;
*Gear console pattern coordinates;
*Analog speedometer and rev counter needle coordinates;

and exclude the 3D shape and dashboard graphics.

These modifications were made using the Car Blaster program.

Cars
The car pack is formed with modified versions of all the original cars in the game but also contains two new cars:

*Audi Quattro TDI - A pseudo variant of the Quattro model that has the performance of a big V10 turbo diesel engine. It also makes use of the Corvette's dashboard with its 6000 RPM tachometer and 6-speed gear pattern.

*Porsche 911 Turbo (version 1.0) - A new version based on the original 911 Carrera 4 with performance and physics specifications providing 320 HP and rear wheel drive.

Development
This Toyota model was made from scratch with the newly available Stressed tool at the time.

Initially intended to be a car with drift capabilities in Stunts, it turned out to be one of the slowest cars available.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is a custom car designed by Zapper.

Development
Its first release was in 2002 as part of the Tuned For Real pack, which included variants of the original Stunts cars tweaked solely for more accurate performance and dashboard speedometer/rev counter dials.

On the 1st of May 2021, a version 1.1 mod 1.0 was made after the creation of a new custom feature that allows using custom colored needles for the speedometer and rev counter in Stunts, which improved the readability by changing the default white needles to black.

The Chevrolet Corvette CERV III is a custom car brought to Stunts mainly by KyLiE, with some assistance from Zapper and Cas. The 3D model and dashboard are based on the Test Drive III representation of the actual CERV III, but feature significant improvements and adaptations. The performance parameters have been configured from scratch by KyLiE alone.

The car saw its official debut on 1 October 2021, with the track Alpine in the Race For Kicks tournament. It was first featured in ZakStunts in season 2022 with the track ReGeneration? (ZCT246).

Development
Around the middle of November 2020, KyLiE asked Cas how feasible it would be to import a Test Drive III car model into Stunts. Cas replied that making a Stunts-compatible model was not the problem, but interpreting the format of TD3 models might be unthinkable. Looking at the binary files, he hadn't a clue of how it could be done. Then KyLiE pointed out that he had seen a topic in the forum not long before regarding Test Drive III models. Cas remembered it. It was a Stunts forum topic that contained a link to another forum in which somebody had created a Blender model of one of the Test Drive III scenarios. Cas downloaded it and found that the three original car models were part of the scenario model, so he cropped them and turned them into separate Blender files.

The idea was to re-scale one of the models and covert it to OBJ to load it with CarWorks or Stressed and start working on it. The CERV III was chosen first. The 3D model produced lots of artefacts in Stunts, so it was simplified until it was more or less stable and then Cas made the first very rudimentary 3SH file with CarWorks 0.1. He also obtained the dashboard images from Test Drive III by brute force, taking screenshots of the game and made a very basic VSH file that produced many glitches. From that point onward, KyLiE worked alone on the model for months with Cas only testing it from time to time.

KyLiE adapted the dashboard palette and made some modifications to make it look better. He got rid of the glitches and improved the gearbox. The 3D model was also specialised for Stunts, although it kept displaying some glitches from time to time. He then started working on the physical parameters from scratch with Cas testing the car every now and then. Most of the production of the car was months of KyLiE working on it alone. Quite a lot of time was spent optimising the CGA and EGA dashboard palettes. While it's likely that nobody will ever see them, KyLiE wanted the car to be complete, as though it was included with the original game or possibly offered as an official add-on.

As the 3D glitches continued to appear, KyLiE contacted Zapper for help. Zapper helped get rid of these glitches and made several improvements to the 3D model until it was fully optimised.

On 1 October 2021, KyLiE announced the new car with this forum post. On the same day, a race was started at Race For Kicks for its debut with a track by KyLiE called Alpine.

Performance
The performance of the CERV III in the Stunts world matches the real car as closely as possible. While it's impressive by supercar standards, it's important to remember that this is a road car, not a race car. It is similar to the Ferrari F40 in terms of acceleration and grip, however the CERV III has a higher flat track top speed.
